Proxy Glossary
The vocabulary of proxies, explained simply.
ISP Proxy
An IP address hosted in a datacenter but registered under a residential ISP, combining the speed of datacenter proxies with the trust of residential IPs.
Residential Proxy
A proxy server that uses IP addresses assigned by Internet Service Providers to real home users, making requests appear to come from real residences.
Datacenter Proxy
A proxy server hosted in a datacenter, offering high speed and low cost but often detected and blocked by anti-bot systems.
Rotating Proxy
A proxy configuration that automatically changes the IP address used for each request or at regular intervals.
Sticky Proxy
A proxy session that keeps the same IP address for a configurable duration, useful for maintaining logged-in sessions.
SOCKS5 Proxy
A proxy protocol that supports any type of TCP or UDP traffic, not just HTTP, making it more versatile than HTTP proxies.
HTTP Proxy
A proxy server that handles only HTTP and HTTPS traffic, widely supported by browsers and scraping tools.
ASN (Autonomous System Number)
A unique identifier assigned to a network operator, used to determine if an IP belongs to a datacenter, ISP, or residential network.
CIDR / Subnet
A notation for specifying an IP address range, like 192.168.1.0/24, representing a block of IP addresses.
Sneaker Bot
An automated software that purchases limited-edition sneakers as soon as they are released, requiring high-quality proxies to bypass anti-bot protections.
Web Scraping
The automated extraction of data from websites using bots or scripts, often requiring proxies to avoid IP bans.
Geo-Targeting
Routing traffic through proxies in a specific country or city to access region-locked content or test localized websites.
Static Proxy
A proxy that keeps the same IP address indefinitely, as opposed to rotating proxies that change IPs automatically.
